What is a field stock location (FSL)?
A field stock location (or FSL) is a form of forward stock location better suited to meet critical SLAs by holding stock close to where it is needed, minimising response times and maximising operational effectiveness.
The difference between a forward stock location and field stock location is usually size. Forward stock locations are typically larger sites where or mini-warehouses where multiple key parts can be kept. Field stock locations are smaller, strategic places where critical stock can be held and replenished for quick and easy access.
Instead of shipping parts from a warehouse hub, field stock locations offer a great deal of flexibility, holding critical parts in places of maximum convenience. These include; central location in town centres or cities, hard to reach remote areas, or even on customer sites.
